Turnout in Brent for the London region European Election was 32.12 per cent, which is just slightly lower than the overall London figure of 33 per cent. Turnout at the local election for Brent in 2006 was 37.26 per cent. Turnout at the London Mayor and GLA election for the combined Brent and Harrow area in 2008 was just under 44 per cent.
Verification of ballot papers took place for six hours on Friday, when the ballot papers were simply tallied at Brent Town Hall. The count proper, ending with the result of the election, started at 4pm on Sunday 7 June and concluded around midnight.
A spokesman for Brent Council said: "We issued 14,498 postal votes of which 60 per cent were returned. This is shows a general increase in the popularity of postal voting."
There were 621 spoiled ballot papers, including 452 where the voter had chosen more than one candidate and eight where the voter had written their name on the ballot paper to identify themselves.
