London Fire Brigade have confirmed that the fire at Barnes Wallis Court, Wembley is now out and they have passed responsibility for the site to Metropolitan Housing Trust (MHT).
All the flats will need to undergo safety checks to ensure they are safe for residents to return, even those flats that appear to have not been damaged. Before this can take place lose debris needs to be removed, and scaffolding will need to be erected to allow for protection from the weather and access to the top floor.
MHT will arrange for residents to be escorted to their flats to collect belongings once the site is safe. MHT have set up a helpline for residents of Barnes Wallis Court. The number is 8.30am until 6pm 020 8976 1228 /020 8976 1227. Out of hours: 6pm until 8.30am 0845 070 771. They will also be setting up a mobile office on the site and be providing daily updates for the residents affected by the fire.
Currently Brent Council have placed 34 families in temporary emergency accommodation in local hotels for two nights. The council will be working with MHT to identify temporary accommodation for those families who will be unable to return to Barnes Wallis Court in the near future.
