Broadcaster and documentary journalist Louis Theroux hit Harlesden town centre on Saturday 30 May with the message to shop green and shop locally.
He handed out cloth bags with the logo: "going green in Kensal Green" to Saturday midday shoppers in Park Parade and High Street as part of a Neighbourhood Working initiative that was supported by the Harlesden town centre management team and the Harlesden Town Centre Partnership.
A local resident, Louis was backed by colourful costumed dancers from Harlesden carnival arts company, Mahogany.
The bags, which also bear the message 'Support your Local Shops', are aimed at encouraging businesses and customers to change habits away from non-sustainable plastic bags. The scheme also shows our commitment to our town centres by promoting the rich diversity of independent traders.
Louis said: "I'm very happy to be involved in promoting life-long cloth bags instead of plastic bags. It's kinder to the planet; it's also better for our local area. I'm hoping it will help reduce litter and in turn make Harlesden town centre a more attractive, more liveable environment."
"I also think it make sense to make the most of the wonderful range of shops we have on our doorstep by shopping locally. You can buy pretty well anything in Harlesden if you look for it!"
