2nd Kilburn Youth Film Festival gets ready to roll

12/11/2009

The 2nd Kilburn Youth Film Festival will roll again on 28 March. The Granville Plus Youth Arts Centre in South Kilburn will become a cinema and workshop venue as hundreds of local teenagers are expected to try their hand behind the camera, as well as watching some of the country's most innovative young film-making talent.

The event, which was established in 2008, is planned and programmed by 11 to 25-year-olds from Brent, will feature short films, music videos, digital art works, documentaries and animations by peers of the same age.

With mentoring from film industry professionals and Brent Youth Service's youth arts development team, the young festival organisers learn skills in programming, marketing and sticking to a budget.

The project is being funded by Film London and Brent Council's youth service.

"We know there are a lot of talented young people in the borough who are interested in film", says planning committee member Daniel Basu, aged 22. "The festival is about getting them excited about film and expanding their knowledge and interest. We want to excite, educate and inspire."

This year, parts of the festival will take place in a solar-powered cinema in Kilburn's Grange Park, courtesy of the Kilburn Spring Clean - an event at the end of March to promote environmental awareness in the community.

As well as film screenings, there will be a series of talks from young film-makers from all over the UK and workshops from film industry figures, including camera operators, storyboard artists and special effects/make-up artists. Douglas Ingrams, storyboard artist on Batman Begins and the forthcoming Angels & Demons will be hosting an interactive workshop for attendees.

The Kilburn Youth Film Festival takes place at the Granville Plus Youth Arts Centre on 28 March 2009 from 1pm - 7pm. There will be additional screenings at the solar-powered cinema in Grange Park, Kilburn, from 12pm - 2pm. Entry is free for all events.
