Last few places available for vtalentyear!

12/11/2009

Brent has been successful in applying to become one of the first local authorities to take part in a national full-time volunteering programme for young people aged 16-25, vtalentyear.

Our first group of young people will have the opportunity to volunteer full-time in the Children and Families directorate. They will be able to use their creative ideas and skills to contribute to services and other young people's lives. There are a number of placements to choose from, all including volunteering directly with young people.

vtalentyear will give young people the opportunity to develop their own skills and gain a qualification to at least level two. On completion of the 44 week programme the young volunteers will have the opportunity to apply for a development grant of up to £1,500 to cover the costs of future training or education courses which will help them make the transition from volunteering to the workplace. They will be well supported throughout the programme and will receive an agreed subsistence allowance and have their expenses such as lunch and travel paid during their placement.

There will be a week's residential at the beginning of the programme delivered by the Duke of Edinburgh Awards.
