Need some life advice? Then just Drop In

12/11/2009

Young people aged 13 to 15 years old living in Kingsbury can now get access to confidential advice and support on sexual health, substance misuse and emotional and mental health at a new Young People's Drop In.

Based at Kingsbury High School, the Drop In operates every Monday from 4 to 6pm, is completely free and offers a warm welcome and specialist support to any young person in the Kingsbury area who wants it.

There is no need for an appointment and visitors don't have to be pupils at the school to use the service. What's more, the Drop In runs throughout the year, regardless of school holidays.

Every week young people can receive one-to-one advice and support for themselves, or they can talk about friends and family that they may be worried about. Young people can also collect information, or find out about other sources of help and guidance.

Organisers say that young people are welcome to come along with friends to see advisors if they prefer.

The initiative is a joint venture between Brent Council's Children and Families department and Neighbourhood Working team, and Kingsbury High School.

Members of the partnership team are currently consulting with young people about developing the Drop In to make it more of a social environment that could even include sports and leisure activities, an ICT suite and a library.

The Kingsbury Drop In takes place every Monday from 4 - 6pm at the lower school of Kingsbury High School on Bacon Lane, NW9 9AT.
