Help to turn Brent Green

12/11/2009

Are you a good recycler and do you care about the environment?

Then you could be a perfect candidate for the Green Zone scheme and Brent Council wants to hear from you.

The council initiative involves local people working to improve recycling, energy and water efficiency and promote sustainable transport in their street, with support from the council.

Each Green Zone is created by a local person, who helps neighbours in their street to adopt simple green habits. There are now five zones in the borough and the council has the ambitious target of increasing that to 20 by September 2009.

The council provides advice and material to people greening their street along with free energy efficient light bulbs and water saving devices such as shower timers and water butts.

The first Green Zone was created in March 2007 and in October it was singled out by the Government as one of the first 'Zero Waste Places' in England. Only six areas in the country were selected for the scheme which aims to go as far as possible in reducing the environmental impact of waste.

If you would like to start a Green Zone email streetcare@brent.gov.uk  or phone 020 8937 5050 or visit our Green Zones web pages for more information.
