Against a background of continuing high developer interest in Wembley and with the urgent need of providing more detailed guidelines for future developments within the 171 acres of land surrounding Wembley Stadium, we began a wide ranging consultation on a new Wembley Masterplan during August 2008.
Feedback received from residents and businesses within the masterplan area and beyond, and detail from new transport and infrastructure studies commissioned by us were presented to the Executive on 15 December 2008 with recommendations for further consultation, which has been approved.
A new consultation exercise began on 22 December 2008 and will end on 30 January 2009, providing the community with a further opportunity to comment on the changes to the Wembley masterplan considering the two studies and a complete set of illustrations.
The plans were presented at a public meeting at Brent Town Hall on Tuesday 13 January and will also be at the Wembley Area Consultative Forum on Wednesday 28 January 2009.
Chris Walker, Head of Planning at Brent Council says: "Brent Council is determined to ensure that development within the 171 acres of land surrounding Wembley Stadium occurs in a coordinated way and delivers the maximum potential from one of London's most exciting regeneration opportunities, whilst addressing needs of the local community."
"We are keen to hear the views of the community and will continue to ensure that local people are full participants and beneficiaries of the massive redevelopment plans for Wembley. Any adopted masterplan will provide guidance to developers and local people will still be able to provide their views on any new planning applications as they come forward."
The new masterplan covers an area of approximately 171 acres of land to the north and east of the land that has been granted outline planning permission owned by Quintain Estates and Development plc, and is broadly defined by Empire Way to the west and the two rail lines that converge from the north and south and the River Brent in the east.
We are also consulting on the infrastructure framework which sets out the costs of providing further social and transport facilities for the new Wembley, including those needed by the new emerging population, such as schools, health and sports facilities.
Plans can be viewed at the One Stop Service at Brent House, Brent Town Hall (along with an exhibition of the plans) and Brent Town Hall Library. Our planning team is happy to meet with any residents' groups wishing to discuss the proposal further.
Give us your views by writing to the Director of Planning, Brent Council, Brent House One Stop Shop 349-357 High Road, Wembley or by emailing wembleymasterplan@brent.gov.uk. Our planning team is also available by prior appointment to discuss the masterplan proposals with any residents groups in and around Wembley. Further information is also available on our Wembley pages at www.brent.gov.uk/wembley.
The original consultation began during August 2008 and ended 17 October 2008. The proposals were presented at the Wembley Area Forum, the Brent Employers' Partnership and to Brent Youth Parliament and two public meetings during September. The masterplan proposals were covered in local media and our own publications including The Brent Magazine and Wembley Way and the council's website. We also sent letters to over 3,000 properties directly affected by the plans seeking feedback.
