Who Pays for BACES

Brent will receive just over 4.5 million pounds from the Learning and Skills Council this year to fund BACES provision. It costs around £100 per hour to put a tutor in front of a class. This covers not only the teacher’s salary, but crèches, administration, training, accommodation and all other overheads.

Fees paid by learners make a very small contribution to the total budget. This is because the Government, the Learning and Skills Council and Brent Council all have a strong commitment to adult learning.
