About BACES

There has been an Adult and Community Education Service in Brent since the early 1960s. Brent Adult and Community Education Service (BACES) is Brent Council's direct provider of education and training, funded by the Learning and Skills Council. BACES delivers a wide range of community-based part-time, day, evening and weekend classes to adults throughout the Borough.

As a community education service, we try to meet the learning needs of all adults in every part of Brent. We run classes in around 60 sites across the borough, so you shouldn’t have to travel far to find a class. We run classes in the evenings and at weekends as well as during the day, so you should be able to find a class at a time that suits you.

BACES offers a wide range of courses aimed at all kinds of learners - people wishing to brush up their skills, people wanting to come back to learning after a break, those who want to improve their reading, writing, English or maths - and those who just enjoy learning.

We have a wide range of courses covering:

  • Skills for Life - English and Maths
  • Skills for Life - English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
  • Improve your job prospects with BACES
  • Family Learning
  • Art, Design and Practical Skills
  • Beauty, Hair Care and Complementary Therapies
  • Business, Accounts and Management
  • Courses for Adults with Learning Difficulties
  • Fitness, Hospitality and Travel
  • Health, Public Services and Care
  • Information and Communication Technology
  • Languages and Communication
  • Performing Arts

BACES publishes a prospectus each June which tells people about the subjects on offer and the venues we operate from. Many courses have crèche facilities to enable people with young children to attend classes. We now offer courses over the full week including Saturday.
